How to listen to the radio

Bru Zane Classical Radio is a webradio, so it can be listened to anywhere there is a traditional or wireless internet connection and with any device: computer, smartphone and tablet.

Here are all the ways of listening to Bru Zane Classical Radio:

Bru Zane  Player
The Bru Zane Player lets you listen to the radio and get all the information on the music being played (composer, title, movements, performers, cd and cd cover) and allows direct access to the Amazon and Itunes pages to buy the cd. There is also a link to the Bru Zane Mediabase, the digital resource site for further information on the composers and works. Compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux (in less recent browsers it is necessary to install the Adobe Flash plugin) and with smartphones and tablets.

Traditional players
You can also listen to Bru Zane Classical Radio using traditional players. Here is a list of the most common ones:
iTunes is the famous program developed by Apple for buying and listening to music. It is available for Windows and Mac.
Winamp is one of the most widely used players. There is a version for Windows, Mac (called MacAmp) and Linux (called XMMS).
Mediaplayer is the Windows system player.
Real Player was one of the first multimedia players. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
VideoLan (VLC) is known for its ability to read practically every format. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Mobile devices
Bru Zane Classical Radio is present in the following applications, available free from the respective App Stores:
iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Palm, Samsung Bada.
TuneIn is one of the most well known applications for listening to a very large number of webradios all over the world. After downloading and installing it on your device, start it and select the lens icon at top right; type ‘Bru Zane Classical Radio’ into the search box and then select the window with the logo and name of the radio that appears as a result of the search. Reception starts! Selecting the heart icon, Bru Zane Classical Radio will always be available every time the application is opened in the ‘My favourites’ section.

Android
Xiialive is an excellent application based on the list of Shoutcast radio stations, particularly recommended for listening when on the move. After downloading and installing it on the Android device, start it and select ‘Search’; type in ‘Bru Zane Classical Radio’ then select the window with the name of the radio that appears as a result of the search. Reception starts! Selecting the ‘+’ symbol that appears at bottom left, Bru Zane Classical Radio will always be available every time the application is opened in the ‘Favourites’ section.
To listen to Bru Zane Classical Radio when on the move, we recommend using the payment version because it can automatically reconnect to the stream after a loss of the line without blocking itself (the free version makes five attempts and then stops).

I don’t know how to listen to Bru Zane Classical Radio

Bru Zane Classical Radio is a webradio, so you can listen to it anywhere there is an internet connection, by computer, smartphone, tablet or web receiver. Pressing the ‘Play’ button will open our personalised player, compatible with almost all existing computers, and you can start listening to Bru Zane Classical Radio. For other devices we advise you to consult the guide available here.

I press the 'Play' icon, but the player does not appear

In some browser programmes there is a pop-up to block unwanted advertising pages. This may be activated when clicking on ‘Play’ and prevent the player window opening. In this case a notification appears to allow the window to open. The pop-up blocker may also be active in some toolbars (e.g. the Google toolbar).

I press the ‘Play’ icon, the window opens, but a notification appears asking me to download Adobe Flash (®) software

The Bru Zane Classical Radio player is a web application so it does not require any installation. It functions using the html5 code, which is supported by all the most modern browsers. However, in older versions the Adobe Flash plugin may be required, which is installed in most existing computers. If your computer does not have it, it can be downloaded free from the Adobe site at this link.

Reception is difficult because there are lots of interruptions

Reception of a flow of continuous data (streaming) at 128 kbit per second is required to listen to

Bru Zane Classical Radio. This is no problem with an ordinary ADSL line, but there may be difficulties if connection is through a wireless router or the UMTS network. In the latter cases, the speed of the connection depends not only on the nominal capacity (that declared by the provider), but also on the intensity of the signal received. If the receiving device is a long way from the router (or in an area with a weak UMTS signal), the connection speed drops considerably and cannot guarantee a continuous stream, causing frequent interruptions in the audio signal. The problem can often be solved by changing the position of the wireless router or connecting a high-gain antenna to the receiving device (if it offers this possibility) and pointing it in the direction of the router. For more information, contact our technical service.

Reception has always been good, but today there are a lot of interruptions or nothing can be heard at all

The stream is sent by our server to receivers all over the world through the internet, which is ideally structured like the branches of a tree: there is a node at every branching point. If a node does not function correctly, the stream is interrupted, causing problems at the receiver. This is why reception is sometimes difficult, even though it normally works. We can check the operation of the transmission server, but not that of the individual nodes around the world. In any case, if you have reception problems please notify the technical service, which will make the relevant checks.

Another cause may be the amount of traffic on the domestic network: downloading files (e.g. a fairly large email attachment) or a decoder for on-demand reception of TV via internet can saturate the capacity of the available bandwidth, with consequent interruptions to the stream.

Using the ‘Bru Zane Player’ there is a brief interruption of about one second

The interruption of the stream that happens every two hours for about one second, using the Bru Zane Player (but only when the browser uses the Adobe Flash plugin), is our way of emptying the browser’s memory cache and in this way avoiding problems of delay or computer instability. This is not an anomaly, but part of the player’s normal operation.
